Sustainability is at the very core of ZZ Contracting’s values. We have extensive knowledge and experience building with green technologies including solar power installations, mechanical + insulation technologies and high-performance building envelopes.
ZZ has received accreditation for our achievements in the space including High Performance Residential Buildings; Building Envelopes; Stone Wool Performance and Acoustics & R-Values, to name a few. Our Consulting Packages include energy assessment that reconcile your investment to clearly show you how soon it pays for itself. In the last four years, we have commissioned over 160 panel installations in and around Toronto, generating an estimated 54,300 kWh of annual energy, equivalent to planting 15,855 seedlings annually! With the perpetual rising costs of natural gas and electricity, building a sustainable and efficient home pays for itself while also paying it forward for future generations of homeowners and contractors.

Our staff is comprised of in–house, full time crews made up experienced carpenters, framers, finishers, and skilled labourers. Through years of operations, we have built long lasting relationships with reliable and licensed sub trades. Our scale allows us to control all elements of our builds and maintain our strict standards of quality control. Each project is assigned a dedicated Site Supervisor and all aspects of project sequencing and scheduling is coordinated through our Project Manager, ensuring no item, however minor, is overlooked. Our company is only as good as our team, which is nothing shy of exceptional.

Zeke Kaplan
Zeke Kaplan brings over 20 years of experience in the construction, project and property management industries to ZZ Contracting. Beginning at the age of 15, Zeke worked for his family’s development, construction and property management company and by the age of 23 managed over 1,100 residential suites. While studying at McGill University, Zeke co–founded ZZ Painting Professionals in 2008. In 2012, Zeke branched out on his own and thus began ZZ Contracting.
Zeke completed his undergraduate degree from McGill University with a First–Class Honors BA, where he also served as the associate editor of Canons and received a Business Achievement Award.
Zeke is active in the real estate industry with a passion for restoring and developed undervalued buildings. He has sat on multiple non–profit and profit Boards, bringing his leaderships and knowledge of construction and management industries to strengthen the organizations and companies he’s touched.
Zeke is a proud husband and father to 3 beautiful children.

From Radiant Heated flooring to full glass tiled shower enclosures, we work closely with Stone Fabricators, Tile Suppliers and Installers, Plumbers and Electricians to envision and build your Bathroom Oasis.
From new framing to custom woodwork and everything in between, ZZ Contracting’s in-house Carpentry Team works closely with every client to create unique and long lasting woodwork.

Laneway Home
There is a secret in the back lane, hiding out behind the century-old Victorians on a downtown street. It boasts modern design, spacious-feeling rooms; framed views and landscape elements that provide privacy; and windows and skylights that bring light in at all times of day. All this and it is nestled, neatly, centrally, in a Toronto laneway.
In order to maximize space, a split-level design is utilized. That includes the living areas on the main level, two upstairs bedrooms, and a walk-out basement beneath the dining room. The wood siding was salvaged and restored from the previous building on-site, in order to bring warmth to the gray, seamed metal and reference the neighbourhood’s past.
The kitchen, sunk down a few steps to better define it from the rest of the living spaces. Built- in Douglas Fir cabinetry, and a custom Douglas Fir table.
The breakfast bar at the end of the room lets diners look out over the backyard, while the nearby freestanding cabinetry offers streamlined storage that doesn’t detract from the sight lines.
In an upstairs bedroom, a generous skylight from big foot windows and doors expands the sense of space and increases the natural light.
There is a half bath on the main level and this full one upstairs, which also has a skylight and generous ceiling height, thanks to the pitched roof. Douglas Fir cabinetry keeps consistent with the rest of the house.
Croft Laneway Duplex
Laneway Home
Project Croft involved the “as of right” build of a residential laneway duplex home. Spread over 2 storeys with a finished basement, this project revolves around sustainability: using electricity with no fossil fuels whatsoever.
Power is generated from 27 solar panels on north and south elevations, a testament to this zero fossil fuel sustainable build. The house features a peaked roofline dressed in Heron Blue above thermally modified knotty pine cladding. A nod to the old cottages that once lined Croft, formerly known as Ulster Lane.
Project Features: High efficiency split ductless heating/cooling, HRV systems and appliances, recycled Heron Blue standing seam metal roof cladding, spray foamed envelope, locally sourced red oak engineered hardwood, wifi controlled underfloor heating, smart activated sump pump battery backup + sewage ejector and a shared outdoor garden.
